Exams done, farewell done, goodbyes done. What’s next? Should I take admission or start looking for a job? Should I do internship or just wait a few months and think about my career path after graduation?
How do I begin?
Where do I start?
We all have been there: standing at the crossroad and scratching head while pondering over the most confusing question ever, “what’s next”.
Here, we have solved this puzzle for you so that you can kickstart your career right away.
Find Your Spark
Do this little activity before going to the next suggestion. Take a pen and paper (or just open an Excel sheet) and make two columns. In one column, write everything that sparks joy in you, ignites your passion, and makes you feel fulfilled. In the other column, list down your current skills, natural and acquired both.
Now, find a match between the two. You can do a fun “match the columns” activity here too.
Discuss with a Career Counselor
Take your “match the columns” activity and discuss your skills and passion with a professional career counselor. Experts in career growth and development can help you explore and empower your inner self. It helps open your mind and vision to foresee the opportunities and establish future goals.
You can book a counseling session with one of the mentors at Smart Sindh or join a group discussion to find your career path.
Research Your Niche/Industry
Here is an amazing but rarely known trick. By doing this, you will have a clearer picture of “what’s next”.
Join job-specific platforms like LinkedIn. Now go to the Jobs section and see what skills the employers are looking for in your niche/industry. Compare the skills with the job description/title. You can also compare the skills with the salary offers if available.
This method will help you identify the skills you need to grow in your niche or industry.
Give Interviews
No jokes here! Prepare yourself for interviews with Smart Sindh’s mentors and give as many interviews as you can. It will not only boost your confidence but will also expand your exposure. It will also give you access to the talent pool of different companies.
However, give interviews with the mindset of joining the right opportunity, not just for the sake of gaining exposure.
Gain Experience
Experience is as important as academia. Any kind of employment, be it internship, contract, or full-time job, gives you exposure to industry systems. It also helps you build a network of supportive professionals for future run.
Get Tech-Savvy
Technology is the present, and the future. Technological solutions are becoming part of every industry. Software solutions like AutoCAD are being used in Mechanical Engineering and automated payroll solutions are being used in Human Resource Management. Data management tools are a part of almost every industry. Getting tech-savvy will give you a competitive edge over others. Talk with industry experts and keep an eye on the technological solutions used in your industry or niche. Basic ones like MS Word and MS Excel are must-haves.
